Wear That Film: Valley Girl (1983)

After being sick at home yesterday I ended up watching Valley Girl (1983) and when I finished, I couldn’t help setting today’s outfit all pink and purply! Here’s my kind of Valley Girl look according to my wardrobe.
(Forever21 ‘Heart Break City’ purple sweater, Polly Pockets pink cassette player, ‘First Kiss’ and ‘Kiss Me’ heart earrings, Playhound Eyewear pink round Sunglasses with neck strap from ☆☆, Kate Spade #handsomestranger clutch with xmagic glitter heart brooch, Kate Spade iPhone5 case, OPI ‘Ate Berries in the Canaries’.)

Valley Girl is the latest addition to my ‘movies with costumes I’d want in my closet’ list. They got it from the beginning until the end; the style, the colors, the music, the plot that is predictable yet still amusing. Even got me inspired to write my upcoming The Nail Spell column for Cheeze Magazine no.133 (which I will be posting that in few weeks, after the issue’s out). The movie reminds me of a materialistic 80s version Barbie Doll, who’s dumping Ken for someone with totally different lifestyle and all her friends kept convincing her to go back to Ken even though he is a douchebag.

The movie itself is a typical good girl meets bad boy with a little bit of Romeo and Juliet kind of love. But the parents have nothing to do with it, in fact the dad plays quite funny role in the film, with his passionate hippy attitude.

Other things I love about the film is probably the setup of those girly scenes, especially the girls’ rooms, the wallpapers, the pastels, the polkadots, the asian souvenirs (Japanese fans and Chinese umbrella) and how they all go so well with the rest of the furnitures/costumes.

I also love how Julie’s one-piece bathing suit, sunglasses and neck strap are all bright red. It’s sad you rarely see people using neck straps for shades these days…

Now you see why their clothes makes me wish I was growing up in the 80s

The prom.

Here’s the playlist of the songs I love from the film:
The Flirts – Jukebox (Don’t Put Another Dime)
Josie Cotton – He Could Be The One
Pat Travers Band – I La La La Love You
Bonnie Hayes – Girls Like Me
Bonnie Hayes – Shelly’s Boyfriend
Josie Cotton – Johnny Are You Queer

I hope I didn’t spoil all the excitement, cause it’s like tooooootally an amazing movie to watch for a girls’ night in!

Marimekko craze!

Few weeks ago Marimekko just launched their official store in Bangkok and I’m telling you this Finnish textile brand is making me broke! Not just from their super cute Unikko design I find fascinating but also the ones from their other designers too!

Having nice pattern designs on your accessories could easily spice up your daily styling, especially when you are too lazy to dress up, you simply let them tell you what to wear instead! So here are the very first ones I bought; the seasonal Keijuli Mini Unikko coin purse♡ I pick the wide cosmetic pouch to go with it. The fun part is that I decided to do little embroidery on the pastel Unikko one with my initial and some star sequins on it :-)

After carrying my Legally Blonde pantone around I got stuck on what to wear. I can’t always go pastel the whole week (though you might think I probably can, browsing through my blog/instagram). I sometimes get bored of light colored lipsticks while craving for bright red or orange lips. So I bought another matching pair a week after (couldn’t help it…)

I picked a Rantsu Midi coin purse to match with a lively colored signature Unikko tote bag. With bright textiles never forget to style it a little with your favorite bright colored earrings (into all things cherry at the moment) and some of your favorite pins in which I chose my new Tokyo Disney Ariel pin. Grab either your Russian RedMorange MAC lipstick or any killer colours of your choice and you are ready to face your tragic monday morning traffic!

Treasure Selling Challenge

Like you all know how addictive flea markets can be, I’m a big fan of these kind of markets where you can go hunting other people’s treasures, spending all your money on things that you keep telling yourself ‘you might not find it again somewhere else’ or ‘it’s vintage’ or ‘it’s limited edition’ or whatever your mind tells you to think while you quickly search for the wallet in your tote bag. And because I’m one of those crazy buyers I ended up with too many things in my room and so little money left in my own purse.
It was exciting to see people liking stuff you owned though, and heart breaking at the same time to say goodbye to them, thinking of times when you bought them, wear them and collect them. But sometimes those are things your barely use and you barely cared about before that you have completely forgotten about them. To be optimistic about this, it’s either you ended up not selling some of them and cherish them more or you just give it away and spend the money on something else you love. So selling your own stuff isn’t that bad, it’s more like recycling!
The outfit of the day…

I bought a brand new Jewelna Rose luggage, their details are so pretty I couldn’t help using it as a decoration for my little weekend shop. Jewelna Rose is a Japanese brand that designs lots of cute bags and luggages and because they now collaborate with Disney’s The Little Mermaid this became my current favourite travel suitcase. Luggages are fun and convenient to carry around if you are going to sell lots of stuff at the flea market, especially when you have a cute one that matches your style it would tell so much about you as much as how your other accessories would.

The details…

I wore a swimsuit I bought from aprilpoolday a very simple one with a sassy twist when you turn around! I love how I can match this with my high waist shorts and my vintage pins.

Daisy pins are very classic, I feel like they can always match all kinds of clothes but you may also try some other vintage flower pins in vivid colours to go with your different look each day as well…
Don’t forget to try them on your bags and shoes too!
